Nine Things To Sew and Crochet In 2023

The Make Nine Challenge is exactly what it says on the tin!

You pick nine things that are on your crafty bucket list and focus on making those within the year.

This is the first year I have decided to take part in the challenge and have said to myself that if I can get 5 of these made – I’ll be a happy girl!

In case you are looking for some inspiration of what to make, here are nine things to make in 2023;

Temperature Blanket

Inspired by creators like TL Yarns, Let’s Get Knit Faced and Angel Dawn, a temperature blanket is a lovely example of slow crafting.

The idea is to crochet (or knit) a row a day for every day of the year based on the temperature.

And the best thing is, you can pick your own colours and create your own chart based on the temperature scales where you live!

The Heather Blazer by The Friday Pattern Company

This blazer is a must-have staple in everyone’s wardrobe. It is designed for beginners and a great pattern to practice making clothes. You could use some lightweight linen for spring/summer or some nice auburn/browny wool fabric for autumn/winter.

The Blomma Quilt by Sun and Stars

I am a huge lover of quilt making both traditional piecing and paper piecing. This pattern caught my eye because this is a hand applique quilt which again, perfect for anyone looking for a slow craft to get their teeth into!

Lunch Bag

It’s worth making something practical in your make challenge and with more people hybrid working (like me), a lunch bag would be super helpful for days when you need to venture into the office. This is a great scrap buster project and a range of materials can be used.

Saguaro Set by The Friday Pattern Company

This is a gorgeous pattern that suits everyone – honestly, just search #saguaroset on Instagram and you will see an array of beautiful people in this pattern! Also check out the website’s blog as they have a few pattern hacks for this set which is *chef’s kiss*

The Wesley Crochet Bag + The Elaine Cardigan by M Madison Marie

The Wesley bag is a project bag but can be used as a lovely summer bag when the weather is nice. The Elaine Cardigan is lovely, chunky and oversized and perfect for those cold mornings/evenings or chilling in the house! Both patterns are beginner friendly and super affordable.

The Nova Star Quilt by Then Came June

A more of an intermediate pattern but the outcome is worth the effort. Comes in 3 sizes crib, throw and bed. You can make this scrappy and clear out your scrap box or you can pick a beautiful colour palette for a more cohesive look.

Letters To Santa Quilt by Moda

This is a really fun, customisable pattern where you can pick and choose what words you want to use in this winter-inspired quilt. You can design your own letters quilt without having to do the maths! Moda has a free planning sheet that you can use. The only thing you need to do is by the pattern for the letters so it’s the correct size.

So many great examples on the Moda website and Instagram – It’s just a fun project to get you into the Christmas spirit!
